The Scarlet Pimpernel Blog Party Tag!!

Yay! A tag!

Here are the questions, and my answers:

1. The obvious question...how'd you get introduced to The Scarlet Pimpernel?
Blogs! Mostly Amy's. We got the book on Kindle and I devoured it :).

2. If you could meet any of the characters in real life, who would it be and why? (You can use the obvious choice of Sir Percy, but this is your chance to get creative ;))
Yeah, obviously Sir Percy, but otherwise maybe Suzanne, cos I think she's really nice, or one of the League guys, cos they're cool :).

3. What are your top three favourite quotes from the books/movies (yes, just three)?
"Sink me!"; (Haha, original, right?) [Sir Percy singing "God save the King" in revolutionary France;
and, oh...I can't think of another one...I need to read it again :)

4. Who is your favourite supporting character in the books? (Percy and Marguerite are ineligible)
Um, that's a hard one, seeing as I have only read the first book. I do quite like Suzanne.

5. Which film versions have you seen, and which do you like best?
I haven't seen any. But I really want to. The Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour one, of course :)

6. What's your top-absolute-favourite scene in the first book?
Um...I really like the scene in the inn in France when Percy outwits Chauvelin with the pepper-snuff. :)

7. If you could dream cast a new adaptation of the book (a period piece, that is), who would you choose to play the roles of Sir Percy, Marguerite and Chauvelin?
That's hard.
I would cast Aaron Tveit as Sir Percy; I'm not entirely sure why...But, Enjolras and Sir Percy do have some similarities, right?
Marguerite? No idea.
Chauvelin? I think maybe Geoffrey Rush. He could do a French villain. He played Javert in an inferior version of Les Mis.

8. Do you think the Scarlet Pimpernel does his work purely for "the love of sport," as the narrative would tell us (and as he would often claim), or does he have more noble motives that he won't admit? Explain your answer. Show your work.
I think he does have more noble motives, but he just won't admit it. He really wants to save people. I don't think he would endanger himself and others solely for sport, though it's probably a small part of it :)

9. Second to Chauvelin, who is the worst villain in the book series and why?
Having only read the first book, I cannot say.

10. What's the favourite novel in the series...?
See previous answer.

11. If you could change one thing about your favourite version of the movie, what would it be?
I haven't seen any. :(

12. Lastly, how would you convince a skeptical friend to read/watch TSP? What is it that you love about it?
It's really exciting and it has suspense and mystery, and it's not hard to read. Now read it. What do I love about it?? Two words. Sir Percy!! He's so funny, and clever, and brave, and all that.

Thanks for the tag, Amy!

The Janeite Tag

Edit: I recieved this tag a shockingly long time ago - it's finally here!]

My sister, Elizabethany, tagged me
for the Janeite Tag. Thanks, Beth!

[
I love this picture.

The Rules:
~Thank and link back to the person who tagged you.
~Tell how you were introduced to Jane Austen and share one fun fact about your Janeite life (this fun fact can be anywhere from "I stayed up all night reading Emma," to "I visited Chawton and met Anna Chancellor.").
~Answer the tagger's questions.
~Write seven questions of your own.
~Tag as few as one or as many as seven other Janeites and let them know you've tagged them.

I was introduced to Jane Austen via my first viewing of P&P95 at about age 10. Since then I have read P&P, Northanger Abbey, and most of S&S and parts of Emma.

Janeite Fun-fact: I plan to attend an English Country Dance in October; at another dance we danced a version of the dance Lizzy dances with Mr. Collins in P&P95. (My sister nick-named it "The Collins Caper"!)

Elizabethany's questions:

1. Who is your least favourite Jane Austen character and why?
That's a hard one. Maybe Willoughby or Wickham. Because they're both villains. But Willoughby more, because he broke Marianne's heart. :(

2. Where would you rather live: Pemberley or Donwell Abbey?
Probably Pemberley.
"I do not think I have ever seen a house more prettily situated." - Lizzy, P&P95

3. Which is your favourite of Austen's books?
I actually quite like Northanger Abbey.

4. If you could choose to invite 3 Jane Austen characters for tea, who would you choose and why?
Emma Woodhouse and Lizzy Bennet, because they're my two favourite Austen heroines, and Mr. Knightley, because he's one of my favourite Austen heroes. (And he's really funny)

5. If you were one of Austen's heroines, where would you choose to spend the summer: Bath, London, or Brighton?
London. I would LOVE to go to London!

6. Who do you think are the most sensible parents in Austen's novels?
I think Mr. & Mrs. Morland, from the ones I've read of.

7. Do you 'ship' any of the minor characters from the books/movies?
My sister and I once jokingly shipped Caroline Bingley and Officer Saunderson from P&P95!
And my sister invented Mr. Collin's cousin for Mary Bennet!

I am tagging whoever wants to do it :)

My questions for them:
1. How many of Austen's novels have you read?
2. Which Austen film do you like best?
3. Mr. Darcy or Mr. Knightley?
4. If you could visit either Jane Austen's house at Chawton, or the set of Pemberley in Pride & Prejudice, which would you chose?
5. Which is your favourite Austen quote?
6. If you could cast anyone to play Mr. Darcy in a dream cast Pride & Prejudice, who would it be?
7. Which Austen film costume is your favourite?

The Bookshelf Tag

The Bookshelf Tag~Created by Natalie of Raindrops on Roses and Whiskers on Kittens

Describe your bookshelf (or wherever it is you keep your books-it doesn't actually have to be a shelf!) and where you got it from:
I usually keep my books lined up on top of my drawers, though at the moment my sister and I have moved out of our room temporarily so we can (hopefully) do renovation. I have no idea they came from, though!

Do you have any special or different way of organizing your books?
No. I love Naomi's idea for organizing by colour, though!

What's the thickest (most amount of pages) book on your shelf?
The copy of Les Miserables I have out of the library at the moment.

What's the thinnest (least amount of pages) book on your shelf?
Wow, I don't know. I'll have to have a look.

Is there a book you received as a birthday gift?
Yes, Legend Led, by Amy Le Feuvre. I got it for my 6th or 7th birthday - I don't think I've even read it all!

What's the smallest (height and width wise) book on your shelf?
Probably the tiny baby album with photos of me and my older sister as babies.

What's the biggest (height and width wise) book on your shelf?
Well, the tallest book I own would be the Encyclopedia of the Future (a technology book), and the widest would be Les Miserables.

Is there a book from a friend on your shelf?
I don't think so.

Most expensive book?
Wow. Um, I have no idea.....most of them I either was given, won, or bought second hand, so I don't know.

The last book you read on your shelf?
The Third Door, by Emily Rodda, and Cannibal Adventure by Willard Price (it's not as bad as it sounds, I wrote about his series here) :), both of which I am currently reading.

Of all the books on your shelf, which was the first you read?
Whoa. I think the first book I owned was Sir Gibbie , a book I got when I was younger,  for Sunday School.

Do you have more than one copy of a book?
I don't think so, no.

Do you have the complete series of any book series?
No.

What's the newest addition to your shelf?
Of  my own, Persuasion - I got it at the reading program at the library - I've gotten about a dozen or so books from there over the last few years.

What book has been on your shelf FOREVER?
My Bible - it's over 7 years old.

What's the most recently published book on your shelf?
Again, probably the above copy of Persuasion - that version was printed just last year. Otherwise, probably The Forgotten Pearl, an Australian WWII story, which was first published 2012/2013.

The oldest book on your shelf (as in, the actual copy is old)?
A second-hand Willard Price book, not sure which one it is.

A book you won?
Wow, um any of the ones I got for the library reading program, does that count?? These include three Willard Price, Persuasion, The Forgotten Pearl, Kezzie's War, and others.

A book you'd hate to let out of your sight (aka a book you never let someone borrow)?
Don't know.

Most beat up book?
They're actually all in pretty good nick - maybe one of the second-hand ones, like the collection of horse stories.

Most pristine book?
Persuasion, it's the newest.

A book from your childhood?
Legend Led.

A book that's not actually your book?
Les Miserables (which is almost my book; it's a library book, but it's in the stack, and no one else ever gets it out.)

A book with a special/different cover (e.g. leather bound, soft fuzzy cover etc.)?
Um, my Bible has a blue carry sort of cover with a pocket.

A book that is your favorite color?
Aforementioned cover is blue, or The Forgotten Pearl is green. (My two favourite colours.)

Book that's been on your shelf the longest that you STILL haven't read?
Probably Nobody's Girl, another Sunday School one I never found very interesting.

Any signed books?
No. :(

Thankyou Natalie, for that lovely tag! Feel free to do it yourself - if you follow my link to her post up top you can scroll to the bottom of her post and copy the questions. :)

A quick announcement

Actually, a series of quick announcements.

1. I am NOT attending public high-school. Cambridge and homeschooling will continue. :) Am I glad? Yes.

2. I am now 15. Which seems a lot younger than I used to think it was. Funny, that....

3. Can I ask my lovely readers a question? I just want to know roughly how many people read my blog ('cos if you're like me you might read regularly without following officially), and what should I post about? Do you like my posts? Any suggestions? Please let me know!

4. I have to go, but hope to be back soon :)

(And thank you for bearing with my terrible random-ness) :)

Guest Post ~ Fan-Fic Genre Mix-up

This post was inspired by Anne-girl's post here.
I posted this as a guest post at my sister's blog here
So we were playing around this afternoon - we got the idea from Anne-girl's post as linked above (read that post, guys, it's Hilarious with a capital H!) - and here is our result:

The Characters:
Marius Pontmercy - Les Miserables
Anne Shirley - Anne of Green Gables
Gavroche Thenardier - Les Miserables
Gale Hawthorne - The Hunger Games

Sonny-Bill Williams - NZ Rugby Player

Eden Park (Rugby Grounds), Auckland, New Zealand - 2014
Sonny-Bill is tossing a rugby ball around, practising.

Gale is hiding behind a row of seats, creeping around, looking for Peacekeepers.

Gavroche strides in with a pistol.

Anne Shirley and Marius find each other at the entrance.
Anne is looking for the lake of shining waters; Marius is wondering where the barricade has gone.

Sonny-Bill (to Gale): Oi! What ya doin' up there, bro?

Gale: Are you a Peacekeeper?

S-B: Am I a what-what?

Marius (approaches): What are you doing? Where are we?

S-B: Eden Park! Wanna pass around?

Gale: Wanna what?

Gavroche plays around with his trigger-less pistol.

Anne: Have you seen the Lake of Shining Waters? I seem to have lost my way.

Marius: The Lake of What?

S-B: C'mon! (To Gale) Catch, bro!

Gale doesn't catch. Sonny Bill runs up the field. Soon he comes back.

S-B: Yeah! I got a try, man!

Gale: Well, that's okay; keep trying. What exactly are you trying to do?

Marius: You'll get there one day.

S-B: I got a try! I got the ball over the line! Try! Touch-down! Score! Get the picture?

Gale: Sort of.

The scene changes.

Paris, France - 1832

Marius: Ah! Here we are! TO THE BARRICADE!!

Gavroche: Who's there? French Revolution! Yeah! C'mon, boys!

S-B: To the what-what??

Gale (to Marius): Hey! Hey, is this a revolution?

Marius *lowers gun to look at Gale as if he is crazy*: Uh, YEAH!!!

Gale: Oh yeah!!!! At last; I've been waiting for this all my life! At last we can overthrow Snow and be free!

S-B: Dude, it's summer - and we don't get much snow here, anyways.

Anne: Have you seen-

Marius: -the Lake of Silly Waters? No!

Anne: I dropped Marilla's brooch in it - and if I don't find it, she won't let me go to the picnic!

Gale: Who cares? We're revolting here!!

Anne: Yes, you are revolting!

Marius: If you're quite finished - hurry up! We have only fifteen minutes to build the barricade!

Gale: A barricade! Ooh, yeah!! Aw, man! Furniture? That's not very stable; it should be concrete.

Marius: Just move! *begins building barricade, humming Building the Barricadesoundtrack*

S-B (To Marius): Hey, dude! What is this, World War 3 or something?

Gavroche: WORLD war?

Marius: Barricade!!!

Gale: Yeah, what he said! Oh, by the way - d'ya have any bombs or anything? We'll need a lot to destroy Snow's Peacekeepers.

Marius: Bombs?

S-B: I told you; there's no snow!

Gale: Or a machine-gun?

Gavroche: Marius! My pistol 'asn't got a trigger!

Marius: Here - take this carbine!

Gavroche: I want a big gun!

Marius *gives Gale and Gav each a large gun*: Here, use these! Get behind the barricade. Save your gunpowder.

Gale: I think I see a Peacekeeper!

S-B: A what?

Marius (To Anne): Hey, you! Stop picking daisies, and get behind the barricade! You'll get killed!

All are huddled behind the barricade. The scene shifts again.

Avonlea, Prince Edward Island - 18--

S-B: Hey, this dirt is red! Like blood!

Marius: RED! THE BLOOD OF ANGRY MEN! *continues singing Red and Black to himself*

Anne: The Lake!! *runs off*

Gale: What's happening? Have we won??

Marius: THE NIGHT THAT ENDS AT LAST!!

Gale: Election time!

S-B: What for? It's not til the 20th! By the way, this soil looks volcanic! Mt Eden is a dormant volcano; it's gonna BLOW!!!

Gale: You are so dumb. Dormant volcanoes don't blow! And yet, it could be a trap.

Gavroche: Volcanoes explode.

Marilla appears.

Marilla: Anne! There you are! *Anne and Marilla leave*

The scene changes again.

The Capitol, Panem - 3015 (or somewhere in the future)

Marius: Where are we now?

Gale: The Capitol! Come on!

S-B: The what??

Anne reappears: Here I am!

Marius *sighs*: I thought we got rid of you.

Anne *grins*: Nope!

Gale: A hovercraft! Shoot!!!!!

*they shoot*

Marius: Hey, what are those things?

Gale: Bombs! We gotta detonate them! *they shoot and the bombs blow* That'll blow up the Justice Building!

S-B: Okay.......

Gavroche: It's this funny thing again! *finds a rugby ball*

Anne: Shall we go for a stroll to the Dryad's Bubble, and have a picnic!

Gavroche: To the WHAT?

S-B *spots the rugby ball*: MY BALL!!!

Marius: protective about his ball, isn't he?

Gale: Hmph. Unimportant.

They look around and discover that they're back where they started.

Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand - 2014

Gale: I'm hungry! Is that a rabbit? *races off*

Anne: The Dryad's Bubble! I can see my bosom friend Diana - she is waiting for me! She has something very important to tell me; I can tell by the way she is waving her arms around! *departs, followed by Gavroche.

Marius: The Rue Plumet! Cosette! *leaves*

Sonny-Bill shrugs, and plays around with his ball.

THE END!
